Spencer, Idaho opal triplets have a thin layer of opal sandwiched between quartz and a black backing. Because they use glue to make the triplet, prolonged contact with water or other chemicals is not advised. Opal in general is a fragile stone. These being triplets have a harder surface so less inclined to scratch but still somewhat fragile. When cared for, they should last many years.
Keep in mind that all opals are different so you may not receive the exact colors in the picture.
