Montana Sapphire

ABOUT MONTANA SAPPHIRES:

One of the 3 semi-precious gems, Montana sapphires come in a rainbow of colors.  The sapphire deposits found in Montana produce high quality sapphires in every color but are best known for the beautiful blues.

Our natural Montana sapphires tend to be light blues and greens, similar to broken coke bottles or sea-glass.  Montana, the Treasure State, produces many different gemstones but the most sought-after would have to be the Montana Sapphire..

NATURAL EL DORADO BAR MONTANA SAPPHIRES

This deposit of Montana sapphires located along the Missouri River near York, Montana is referred to as El DoradoBar deposit. These sapphires generally range 1/2 carat up to  12 carats, with the largest gem quality sapphire to date being 34.7carats!  Montana Sapphires from this deposit tend to run a little larger than Rock Creek sapphires but also a little tougher to spot for the new prospector.  Their rougher shape and muted colors hide these gems amongst the river gravels.

ROCK CREEK SAPPHIRE DEPOSIT

Rock Creek sapphires come from the Mountains of Philipsburg, near Gem Mountain Peak.  These little gemstones provide another flavor or sapphire mining. This clay rich deposit holds many sapphires in a true rainbow of colors.  These gems react well when heat-treated and often produce brilliant blues, greens and teals that Montana sapphires are known for.  You’ll be able to find your perfect Montana sapphire to complete that jewelry item you’ve always wanted.

With the new mining production of Potentate Sapphire Mining, Company, larger stones are being found and available to the public.  Their most famous find to date was named the Ponderosa and weighed in at 64 carats of gem quality, fabulous Montana Sapphire.

FOLKLORE, LEGEND AND HEALING PROPERTIES:

Ancient civilization believed sapphires contained the power of wisdom. They believed that while wearing a Montana gemstone, the stones power helped them through challenging obstacles and enabled them to find correct solutions. Wear your sapphire to improve mental clarity and clear mental garbage.

Sapphires are also considered an anti-depressant and an aid to psychokinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance and astral projection. Sapphires are said to hold healing properties for rheumatism, colic and mental illness. Because of its blue color, Montana sapphires are associated with the throat and brow chakras. Gem therapists use sapphire to help rid unwanted thoughts, bring joy, peace, wealth and heal ailments dealing with the throat.

Sapphire powers include spiritual enlightenment and inner peace. Montana Sapphires may enhance creativity and focus purity of thought. Sapphire is known as the stone of new love and commitment and claimed to be useful in encouraging faithfulness and loyalty. These gems can dispels evil thoughts and bring peace and amiability to its wearer. The blue color is often associated with the heavens and believed to bring divine favor and repel envy.

GEMSTONE QUALITIES:

Sapphire from Montana are rated as a 9 on the hardness scale.  This makes only the diamond harder than the sapphire when grading all precious and semi-precious gems. Rubies are also sapphires – but with the rare red color. Both ruby and sapphire are forms of the mineral corundum – a very hard mineral that will wear beautifully and due to this fact, it makes a great diamond alternative.  Use our sapphires as an alternative engagement ring and you can be sure your Montana sapphire ring was ethically sourced.
